A brief bio
Sergei Tugarinov was born in Moscow into a family of classical musicians. He moved to London at the age of six, a city he calls home to this day. At the age of eight, he started at Sussex House School where, aside from the academic curriculum, he sang, played the violin, as well as football, tennis and chess. In his second year, Sergei set his sights on Eton College and began preparing for admission shortly thereafter.
Eton, as well as Westminster, gave Sergei a place with a music scholarship. He chose the former, continuing his extracurricular involvement in music and sport whilst eventually narrowing his academic curriculum to Mathematics, Economics and French. Not ready to commit to one particular area of study, he travelled to the US to discover its leading universities, celebrated for their high quality and flexible academic system. It was on this trip that he fell in love with Princeton University and selected it as his first choice. After 18 months of dedicated preparation, Sergei was accepted to Princeton in the Early Action application round.
Like everyone at Princeton, Sergei took a range of academic courses, including Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, History, Politics, Ethics, Music and even French Theatre. In his first year, he joined Crimson Education as the first hire in Europe, now a global EdTech company, to build its presence in Russia and the UK. Midway through his second year, Sergei committed to a degree in international relations from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. Through this department, he completed a series of courses in his area of specialisation and also studied abroad at Sciences Po in Paris, France. In his final year in New Jersey, Sergei wrote a dissertation on the impact of the City of London on the Brexit process. He then returned to Europe to advise students on US & UK universities full-time.
As the first hire in Europe at Crimson Education, Sergei grew the UK office to $3 million in annual turnover in five years, latterly as Director of Sales. He also helped the company's Russian office achieve $2 million in revenue in 2019-20. After Crimson, Sergei joined Bonas MacFarlane, a leading London-based education consultancy and tutoring company, as Director of Higher Education. He now leads UK&I education sales at Kaltura, a global video technology company, whilst simultaneously focusing on entrepreneurial ventures in education, technology and sport.
